Episode 20: An obsession with Kato Nelson

November 17, 2017

Holy crap. Akron beat Ohio. That was three days ago and we're still in shock over this. Ohio had a clear path to Detroit after its 28-point beatdown on Toledo and only had one job for the next two weeks: Don't screw up.

Welp, they did. And for that, we got to appreciate the hell out of Kato Nelson.

And for some reason, we found ourselves in a "future of Bowling Green" rabbit hole. Look, it's been a weird month.

Episode 19: Jonathan Ward’s late emergence

November 13, 2017

Pulling into the final two weeks of the regular season (already?!), Alex and Coffin prepare for Week 12's MACtion. Unfortunately, a lot of these games lost some of their luster over the last couple of weeks, like: Western Michigan at Northern Illinois, Eastern Michigan at Miami and Ohio at Akron. Is there still room for those games to be entertaining? Absolutely. But these games don't have the shine that they could've had, like we probably expected at the beginning of the year.

Episode 18: Ohio’s out there dropping elbows

November 10, 2017

Ohio! Central Michigan! You have been heard! We get it, you're good!

Seriously, those two picked up solid wins over Toledo and Eastern Michigan, respectively, and now the road to Detroit and bowl games look much better for the two than they did two weeks ago.

As of this recording, Ball State is getting spanked in a rivalry game, Kent State looked worse than Reece Goddard and Akron just wasn't all there against Miami.

Episode 17: Steveland Hoofkin is a great name

November 6, 2017

More quick turnarounds for this episode. Thanks, weeknight MACtion!

The game of the week is clearly Toledo at Ohio on Wednesday. Ohio will be better-rested than the Rockets by two days and a bus ride. Still, a loss for Ohio would be more hurtful to its MAC East title hopes than Toledo losing and still trying to win the West.

How close/far is Ohio from having two 1,000-yard rushers this season?

Don't sleep on Akron. Or Miami. Or Eastern Michigan. Or really anybody. (Okay, maybe Kent State).

Episode 16: Toledo sits in the driver’s seat

November 5, 2017

What a great week of midweek football. Sure, the attendance was awful, but we're not going to complain about that out loud. We're also not going to complain about watching Nathan Rourke tear it up against Miami. We're also not going to complain about Toledo shutting down NIU's defense. Fitz is upset about WMU losing to CMU the way it did, but it's understandable.

Also, Bowling Green and Kent State were able to bring back their rivalry (??) trophy (????). That's pretty cool (??????)?. And EMU beat up on Ball State at home.

Episode 15: Real MACtion is finally here

October 30, 2017

Finally, the heart of the MAC football season is upon us.

There are five games this week and they all span from Tuesday through Thursday nights. Highlighting the weeknight games are Miami at Ohio on Tuesday, Central Michigan at Western Michigan on Wednesday and Northern Illinois at Toledo on Thursday.

The best part? That would have to be that there aren't any games that are exclusively on ESPN3. All five games are going to be nationally televised (ESPN2, ESPNU, CBSSN).

Episode 14: Gotta trust the process in Muncie

October 29, 2017

Week 9 wasn't saturated with excitement. I mean, yeah, NIU's win over EMU was crazy with the two top defenses in the MAC, but that's about it.

Toledo blew out Ball State as the Cardinals dipped down to their fourth-string QB and finally scored a touchdown after a month without one. Then Akron's one-point win over Buffalo was about as ugly and close as we execpted it to be. Tyree Jackson came back, but he wasn't as nimble as we remember him to be.

Episode 13: Covert pork loin removal

October 25, 2017

Fitz and Coffin preview the very, very light week of football coming up (3 games) and make the most of it.

They try to figure out who can still go bowling, who can make turnarounds and who can stumble their way into Detroit for the MAC title game.

Is NIU the most complete team in the MAC?

Plus, Reece Goddard is going to need to make the most of this bye week with his first collegiate start coming against the biggest rivalry game on WMU's schedule. Yay for opportunity!

Episode 12: Another week, another low-scoring, one-possession loss by Eastern Michigan

October 23, 2017

Of course EMU found a way to lose in a tight battle against Western Michigan on homecoming. Why not? That's a thing these days. It's happened in the four games leading up to this one, why stop now?

Alex gets upset about it. Fitz tries to calm him down. Then they go on to talk about Toledo and Ohio being bowl-eligible and some of the top plays of the weekend.

Also, if you are a MAC Football Pick 'Em participant, you're gonna want to hear how you can easily pick up three bonus points this week.

Episode 11: The ceiling is the roof for Akron

October 19, 2017

Akron's 3-0 in MAC play, but how much longer is that going to last? Are they 3-0 because they're good, or because they played teams at the right time?

Alex and Coffin also go on to talk about the highs and lows of Western Michigan, and if the East could win at least three of its last 10 crossover games against the West.
