Episode 86: Finally, the schedules are out

Episode 86: Finally, the schedules are out

February 22, 2019

The MAC schedules dropped, which means we can finally plan out our road trips!

To start, we need to hash over Lance Leipold's extension (thru 2023), then we take a look at Bill Connelly's series of previews & the MAC power rankings, and, of course, the schedules.

Also, this isn't the most MACtion-y bit of news, but then again it is. Jerry Kill got on the radio and talked about PJ Fleck, but we're not convinced that Kill is in the right here.

Episode 85: The hot take summit

Episode 85: The hot take summit

February 8, 2019

This episode begins with the hottest of hot takes, but I'll let you know now that it's one that we heard from one of our acquaintances. As always, the roster of Fitz, Justin and Alex is a smart bunch with no bad opinions made too public.

Recorded this the night before NSD Pt. 2, which is the day Jimmy Burrow retired as Ohio DC and Lance Leipold's contract was extended as Buffalo's head coach. We regret that we didn't get to the Leipold news, so we owe you next time. We also talked about signing day itself (kinda), wondering who needs to have a big day the most.

Under further review, Justin Tranquill and Juwan Dowells will be back for WMU's defense next year. Why is this relevant? We talk about them coming back because WMU leads the nation in Bill Connelly's returning production percentage for the 2019 season.

Episode 84: Talking about new jobs and Joe Burrow (ft. Kaleb Carter)

Episode 84: Talking about new jobs and Joe Burrow (ft. Kaleb Carter)

January 24, 2019

Just a quick note — we talk about NIU not hiring anybody yet, but this was also recorded Tuesday at noon, which was just hours before news started to happen.

And by we, I mean Alex and special guest/old friend Kaleb Carter. If you recognize Kaleb's name, it's probably because you follow his work with the DeKalb Daily Chronicle where he's on month No. 3 as the NIU (and preps) sports beat, or you remember him from Hustle Belt when he was an Ohio student covering all things MACtion.

We catch up, talk about his new job and Thomas Hammock's new job. And Joe Burrow.

Episode 83: Horse stuff

Episode 83: Horse stuff

January 16, 2019

First 'sode of the new year and we didn't forget to mention Akron this time! There wasn't much to talk about with Akron, but they still continue to exist as an idea. One of Akron's ideas is hiring a 27-year old as its defensive coordinator. Depending who you ask on the show, we're 27.

*gulp*

There's some discussion about how we viewed the 2018 season and, even with the turnover around the league, it might get even better for 2019. There's some other football content to be had, but at the time of this writing, I don't remember what happened. Guess there's only one way to find out.

Episode 82: New Year’s Resolutions

Episode 82: New Year’s Resolutions

December 31, 2018

To end the 2018 calendar, Alex & Fitz talk about the bowl game finales (mostly mush), some big transfer news, players leaving early for the NFL Draft, and New Year's Resolutions for all of the MAC teams.

Episode 81: Sour cream drank

Episode 81: Sour cream drank

December 18, 2018

Alex goes missing this week because his cat, a regular guest on the show, also went missing. Jace is found which is good news.

The bad news is we still recorded a podcast without them, which is a total win for the brand. As a MAC football-sided podcast, we'll do anything for brand wins.

A quick look-back at the Camellia Bowl, re-previewing some upcoming (and ongoing, in NIU's case) bowl game, some Taco Bell go-tos, Christmas month plans, and that's it.

That's it.

Nothing else to talk abou — OH THAT'S RIGHT AKRON DID SOMETHING IMPORTANT. CRAP ALMOST FORGOT AGAIN.

Episode 80: A video game confession

Episode 80: A video game confession

December 12, 2018

With bowl games finally coming to our lives, Alex has a confession to make. Yes, it's about Red Dead.

With bowl games finally coming to our lives, we also talk about the bowl games. Sort of. It's hard to get excited about the MAC and bowl games when they're in the same sentence. Our best guess of a bowl winner is Toledo. (Or Ohio?)

Since we don't really spell it out for you in the program, here's what the schedule looks like:

Sat. 12/15- EMU vs. Georgia Southern in the Camellia Bowl, 5:30 p.m., ESPN

Tues. 12/18- NIU vs. UAB in the Boca Raton Bowl, 7 p.m., ESPN

Wed. 12/19- Ohio vs. SDSU in the Frisco Bowl, 8 p.m., ESPN

Fri. 12/21- Toledo vs. FIU in the Bahamas Bowl, 12:30 p.m., ESPN

Fri. 12/21- WMU vs. BYU in the Potato Bowl, 4 p.m., ESPN

Sat. 12/22- Buffalo vs. Troy in the Dollar General Bowl, 7 p.m., ESPN

Episode 79: New faces and bowl places

Episode 79: New faces and bowl places

December 4, 2018

It's been one hell of an end to the regular season and we haven't talked since the MAC title game. As it turns out, a lot can happen in three days.

Of note, BG and CMU made pretty big hires in Scot Loeffler & Jim McElwain (!!!!!!!!!!!!!), respectively, Akron fires Terry Bowden and six MAC teams were picked to go bowling. Miami finished with a 6-6 record, but no bowl game for the RedHawks.

Episode 78: Never, ever, ever count out NIU

Episode 78: Never, ever, ever count out NIU

December 1, 2018

Final score — Northern Illinois 30, Buffalo 29

The gang went to Ford Field to take in the MAC title game and it was an instant classic. There was some back-and-forth with strong receiver play out of Anthony Johnson for Buffalo and Spencer Tears for NIU, but look at that Marcus Childers performance.

NIU committed too many penalties to let Buffalo get into the end zone easily in the first half (22-10 lead at the break), but defense forced five straight punts out of UB in the second half.

Episode 77: MAC title game preview

Episode 77: MAC title game preview

November 28, 2018

But seriously, can this please be a color rush game?

Blue versus red. White pants, white helmets vs. black helmet, black pants.

I mean, come on.

CALL YOUR GODDDAMN SENATORS. YOUR HAPPINESS MATTERS.

In any case, this is a damn good game and it looks like most people think Buffalo can, should and will win this game. On the other hand, it's NIU.
