Episode 50: Eastern Michigan season preview circa 2018

August 13, 2018

Eastern Michigan had a really rough season to wrap up Brogan Roback's career. It's not really his fault the team dropped six in a row while playing in nine one-possession games. The offense is going to have some new faces, but that defense is expected to dominate once again.

Six questions we ask ourselves about Eastern Michigan in the year of 2018:

  1. Why didn’t we think of “Dos Equis” as Maxx Crosby’s official nickname sooner?
  2. Which will be harder to overcome: replacing Brogan Roback or Sergio Bailey?
  3. EMU’s defense is definitely going to be top-2 in the MAC again, right?
  4. What’s the running game’s ceiling?
  5. Is anybody going to catch passes from the TE spot this year?
  6. EMU was 3-6 in one-possession games last season, with all six losses coming in consecutive weeks to pretty much eliminate the Eagles from bowl contention.  Does that improve this season?

Episode 49: Akron season preview circa 2018

August 9, 2018

Did Akron win its division last year? Sure as heck doesn't feel like it. The defense for the Zips should be pretty damn good, but there's enough uncertainty around that offense to make it look like they'll lose some good old-fashioned 17-10 shootouts. Having seven tough road games isn't going to help, either.

Six questions we ask ourselves about Akron in the year of 2018:

  1. What are we going to get out of this offense?
  2. Which Kato are we going to get?
  3. Is predicting eight wins too much of a stretch?
  4. What’s the deal with airline food?
  5. Does Akron win TWO road games this year?
  6. How good does the defense have to be for the offense not to matter?

Episode 48: Central Michigan season preview circa 2018

August 7, 2018

It's hard to gauge where our confidence is on this Central Michigan unit. On paper, it looks like CMU will finish fifth in the division behind the likes of Northern Illinois, Toledo, Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan. Then you look at the schedule and it's so far in CMU's favor it's not even fair.

Six questions we ask ourselves about CMU in the year of 2018:

  1. If CMU gets to 6-6, which teams will CMU have beaten?
  2. Who has the most to prove this year?
  3. At what position is the “X-factor” on this team?
  4. Last year, CMU’s pass defense was legit. Now Cory Hall comes to Mt. Pleasant to teach the corners. What should we expect out of this unit?
  5. Who do you think we’ll learn most about this year?
  6. Is an average defense good enough?

Episode 47: Ohio season preview circa 2018

July 31, 2018

To help out in previewing the upcoming season for the heavy favorite to win the league title is former Ohio blogger (and friend of the show) Kaleb Carter! We know just enough about Ohio's offense — led by (potentially) the best QB in Ohio history, confident enough in the system set in place for the defense just to make this thing work. But what if things don't work out? Let's play some devil's advocate.

Six questions we ask ourselves about Ohio in the year of 2018:

  1. Who needs to have the biggest season at WR?
  2. How much do you actually trust Ohio’s defense?
  3. What’s Frank Solich’s best win as Ohio’s head coach?
  4. If everything goes right, what will Ohio’s season look like?
  5. If everything goes wrong, what will Ohio’s season look like?
  6. Is this schedule as easy as Rourke and Ouellette just running over everybody?

Episode 46: Western Michigan season preview circa 2018

July 27, 2018

Western Michigan went from GOAT status to 6-6 without a bowl game really quickly. But you can't change the past. All you can do now is look at WMU for what it is and go from there — which is a very talented program with depth that remains to be seen. Losing Jarvion Franklin stinks, but if the Jamauri Bogan-LeVante Bellamy duo stays healthy this year, then there will be more fireworks out of this offense, for starters.

Six questions we ask ourselves about Western Michigan in the year of 2018:

  1. What’s to love about this WMU defense?
  2. Does Wassink continue to develop into a solid passer?
  3. Who is going to catch passes consistently for this offense?
  4. Does the Bogan & Bellamy combo finally live up to its potential?
  5. Can Tim Lester have a big Year 2, or does his game management sink another season?
  6. Should we expect Lester to play a lot of his 2018 class or will most of them redshirt?

Episode 45: Kent State season preview circa 2018

July 25, 2018

Kent State's favored to finish dead last in the MAC East this year, which has been a safe pick for a few years now. With a new coach, new look, new swagger, new identity and a unique signing class, previewing Kent State's football team was a difficult task.

Six questions we ask ourselves about Kent State in the year of 2018:

  1. What can Sean Lewis & company do to make this Kent State program at least watchable?
  2. What does Woody Barrett have to do to earn your trust?
  3. How many freshmen are going to see the field this year?
  4. In which game this year will Kent State have its most eye-opening performance?
  5. How many games will Kent State’s offense have where it runs at least 90 plays?
  6. Who needs to step up this year?

Episode 44: Miami season preview circa 2018

July 20, 2018

The RedHawks are primed to have an excellent year this year. We also have our doubts. If Miami can just get over the hump and all the seniors play up to their potential this year, then why can't this team make a title run? But until then, this team's picked to fall short in the East division race.

Six questions we ask ourselves about Miami in the year of 2018:

  1. How good is Kenny Young?
  2. How much do you trust Gus Ragland?
  3. Does Miami actually have the MAC’s best defense and we don’t know it yet?
  4. Does Miami have enough to beat Ohio this year?
  5. What about Cincinnati?
  6. So is Miami going to do the damn thing or what?

Episode 43: Ball State season preview circa 2018

July 18, 2018

Ball State's favored to not be picked highly this year and a lot of that is because, no matter how you dice it up, it just hasn't been good lately. Now it's young, has some potential, now it just has to string together an actually good season.

Six questions we ask ourselves about Ball State in the year of 2018:

  1. Can Riley Neal finally break through?
  2. Is James Gilbert-Malik Dunner the best 1-2 punch for running backs in the MAC?
  3. Does Justin Hall lead his team in receptions again?
  4. Which player do you think will have the best comeback season?
  5. Is this a hot seat year for Mike Neu?
  6. Where can this team make the biggest surprise in 2018?

Episode 42: The THISORTHATcast

July 3, 2018

Let's keep it easy this week with the holiday and all. The trio goes around the horn with this-or-that questions where we all have to pick one or the other. Which quarterback should have a better yards per attempt this season? Which group of 'all-stars' would you prefer? Who has the favorable schedules? What's to expect out of the Michigan MAC series?

Have an awesome and safe holiday, everybody.
